[UPDATES]

I mostly just edited some pieces from my gallery and I'm currently struggling to finish a new deviation. It's my first time to actually paint a sea and its hard!

Oh, I'm suppose to submit new pages for my comic but unfortunately our scanner's being a jerk! Oh well.. But hopefully next week, things will be settled.

I still have a lot of things to do so thats just about it for now.

At school, I'm pretty much having a hard time since our clinical instructors are making us memorize a lot. I honestly don't like memorizing because it inhibits one to think critically. Memorizing terms are fine but making us memorize procedures word by word and having to recite them perfectly while demonstrating, I think, is utter none sense. I don't get why we can't explain things in our own words instead of just reciting what somebody else have written down. Students are not containers whom teachers can just feed information into.

We are thinking, conscious beings!

In a conformist institution, students are graded on how well they store information and behave on the rules set forth by the teachers regardless whether they are just. Teachers are the ones who "know" and students are just listening objects who "do not" know. Hence, questioning the teachers would mark a student as "bad" and the "good" ones are those who adapt to the teacher's mechanical environment. These teachers abuse their authority to project absolute ignorance upon us students. But they forget, that we youth, due to our limited understanding of the world around us have so many thoughts and ideas in our heads. Thoughts and ideas that would pose as a threat to their authority and superiority. That is why they teach us attitudes and behaviors that they term as "socially acceptable" or right. To do that we are immersed in a mechanical system called school and indoctrinate us to become good citizens.

This banking concept of education wherein students are just containers whom teachers put in knowledge that they deem important. This concept that does not encourage students to think rather, they are awarded on how they adapt to the system impedes creativity.

If the institution where I'm enrolled in thinks that students who memorize the information written within their prescribed textbooks are honor students. And those who continually question and rationalize outside what they are teaching are delinquents then I will not stand and conform silently.

I admit, when I entered college, I wanted to know how it felt like to be at the top of the class. And I did top all my classes until now. Back in high-school, I didn't spend as much time studying as I do now and answered my exams based on my understandings on the subject matter. Back then I prefered essays than objective type of exams. And I thought of my classmates who memorize their lessons as mind-less parrots (quite arrogant eh?) because even if I didn't study much (and I certainly don't memorize), I still got high grades. But now, since all of our exams are departmentalized, everything is objective. During my first year, I actually found it easier to get higher marks if I memorize every bit of particulars written within the professor's prescribed references. And yes, I did become arrogant. I have no problems recalling information objectively, but when asked to explain them in my own words, I now find it quite hard. Two years of succumbing to the banking concept really made a heavy blow on me. That's right, memorizing terms are fine, but we should not rely on the book's definition solely. We are, afterall thinking beings and we have our own words to explain things.

Now, to address my current problem of with my studies, I have just recently refrained from using flash cards. "Practice makes perfect". Yeah right, using flash cards are ideal for memorizing terms. But relying on that? *pft* What are we parrots? I don't think so!

I am ignorant. I know nothing of a lot of things and what other people think of. I know only of what I have read, been taught, and experienced. My thoughts and opinions are the products of these. My views may change, perhaps, if I aquire more information and opinions from other people.

I really don't expect people to read this rant since only a few actually leave comments whenever I do. But for those who have read this, I'm terribly sorry for and thank you for reading.
